January 2003 The Community Fire Company of Rising Sun begins its 82nd year of volunteer service to the community. In 2002 we responded to 531 Fire/Rescue calls and 1166 EMS calls, for a total of 2,256 unit responses. Once again members donated well over 40,000 hours of service to the community. Development in the area continues. New houses are constantly under construction and the Rock Springs Power Generation plant, located just outside of our jurisdiction is well under way. The department's continues to focus on building the Conowingo sub-station, which will be located on Connelly Road, near Weavers Meadow Rd. Once completed, nearly 90% of our jurisdiction will be located within a 3 mile radius of one of our stations. The company also continues work on upgrading and updating equipment. A second ambulance is expected for delivery in April, and committees continue work on units to replace an Engine and the Aerial ladder. As always, the company relies on the donations of the community and the fund-raising efforts of our membership to provide for more 70% of our annual budget of over $710,000.00. As we begin this new year, the fire company looks to continue and expand its excellent service to the community and thinks back to what was said so many years ago: "We have no intentions to rest on our laurels, but look to the future with confidence that this great community will generously support the men and ladies of our Fire Company who give so much, so often, for so little." We will continue.... |
